I can’t decide what “you were my picket fence” means. Does it mean you were the person I wanted to settle down with, the person I wanted to have two-and-a-half kids with in suburbia, the person I wanted to ‘achieve the American dream’ with? Or does it mean you encompassed my version of the dream? However many kids, wherever we lived, you were what made the dream.

If it’s the second version, since he “misses missing her,” we have a narrator who has given up on his own dream. If the first, he has realized that the nuclear family doesn’t have to be what he strives for. And occasionally he regrets losing that point to focus on. But only now and then, because he has moved on to his own dreams.

Or you know, maybe it just sounded good, and I’m putting way too much thought into this.

Really though, how is the requirement for breasts to be covered in public any different from the requirement that a woman’s hair must be covered in some countries under Islamic rule? It makes no sense for the chests of men and women to be treated differently. I’d wager that hands and mouths are used far more often in sexual acts than boobs, but no one is required to wear gloves to the beach. It’s just silly.
